Here at Sequel we’ve just released our annual Trends book, looking at what the months ahead may bring.
Researching for the book, it became clear that our industry is a changing landscape and the pace of change appears to be increasing.

The use of virtual reality and chatbots in our work is now tangible, the content we write needs to be structured with a range of stakeholders in mind, the rush to social media is a trend which has to be carefully considered and the whole employee experience – the buzz word of the moment – requires our skills at different stages of an employee journey.



Add to that the growing influence of Microsoft Office 365 (other similar tools are available!) and it’s key that the skill we need above all is agility.
It’s great that we have so many channels to use and that our role is becoming more influential, but in 2018 it’s about how we use those skills and wield that influence to best effect. We need to ensure the weapons we have are used in the right way, at the right time, and arm the right people.

One size fits all is no longer an option. Nor, I think, are the days when you could pencil a regular channel into your calendar for a year or more at a time. Specific comms challenges and targeted campaigns, using the mix of digital and traditional media we have, is now the new normal.
Challenging, yes. Exciting? Definitely!
